About us

International Theatre Lab (reg. no. 991 205 551) is a not-for-profit production and research organization run by theatre professionals. Its evolution started in 2007, when a core group of long time members of the now-defunct Theatre Laboratory gathered to set the foundation of a new company, reflecting their increased interest in cross-cultural exchange. The organization was initially founded in Bergen, Norway, but faced with the rising cost of working with theatre in an urban setting, we soon started looking for a different location that could meet our need for long term commitment and provide a safe environment for dynamic exploration.

In the spring of 2009, following a generous offer from Ørsta municipality, ITL relocated its home base to Bjørke - a beautiful rural setting on the west coast of Norway with a fascinating fjord and mountain scenery. Liberated from the hard-knock life of the nomadic theatre world, today ITL has at its disposal a building with over 3000 square meters of yard, which we are gradually facilitating into a full capacity Research/Production and Artistic Retreat Centre.

As a tribute to our hospitable community, we are developing an array of local programs targeted to people of all ages and demographics. We will further seek, along with other local collaborators, to celebrate the region’s national and historical significance by presenting theatrical projects which illuminate the events and personalities that have helped shape our region.

Currently, the organization is run by seven members who form the artistic and managing nucleus of ITL:

Siv Saure Chairman of the Board

Elena Gadjokova Artistic Director

Valentin Gadjokov Director

Marielle Wolfe Project coordinator

Lars Fimland Moberg Project coordinator

Annie Valentina International relations

Cecilie Rørstad Administration

Membership is open to those who have participated in projects of the former Theatre Laboratory, as well as to new collaborators.

ITL acknowledges with gratitude the support and efforts of our Sponsors/Donors, Partners, Honorary Board of Advisors and Associates.

We also welcome volunteers who can offer skills and experience to contribute to the development of the organization.
